Access to this site, and to the estate

This page covers the website and the physical estate. Contact us if a barrier prevents you from using either.

This website

We have built this site to target WCAG 2.2 level AA. A target is a commitment to a standard, not a certificate that it has been independently audited, and we have not had an external audit. If you meet a barrier here, telling us is the fastest way to have it fixed.

What has been done

  • Semantic HTML with one descriptive heading per page and a logical heading order.
  • All content works without JavaScript. Nothing on this site is hidden until a script chooses to reveal it, including the navigation menu.
  • Keyboard operation throughout, with a visible focus outline and a skip link to the main content.
  • Links within running text are underlined. Navigation links and buttons have distinct styling and visible keyboard focus.
  • Text descriptions on images that carry information; tables with proper header cells.
  • Text can be enlarged using the browser controls. Paragraphs use a limited line length, and layouts adapt to narrow and wide screens.
  • If a page does not adapt correctly to your screen or text settings, please send us its address and a description of the problem.
  • Reduced-motion preferences respected; there is no autoplaying media and no scroll hijacking.

Known limitations

  • No independent accessibility audit has been carried out.
  • Some historical images carry detail that a short text description cannot fully convey; captions supply the context that matters.
  • The site is available in English, French, German and Spanish. Please report any discrepancy between language versions so it can be checked and corrected.

To report a problem, write to contact@abbayesaintpierre.org. Please say which page and what happened; we will reply and tell you what we can do and when.

Access to the estate

Physical access varies between the historic buildings and outdoor areas. Accommodation is not fully accessible. We assess the specific rooms and routes required for each visit before any commitment is made.

What we can do is give you an accurate answer for the specific rooms and routes your visit would involve. Some things we already know:

  • The residency floor and the studio are reached by stair.
  • Ground-floor rooms, the cloister and the gardens are the most straightforward to reach.
  • Surfaces outdoors are rural: gravel, grass and packed earth rather than paving.
  • The approach to the estate is by country road, and public transport does not serve it directly.

If you tell us your requirements when you enquire, we will tell you before you commit whether a particular space will work, and what alternatives exist. Where we cannot accommodate something, we will say so plainly rather than let you discover it on arrival.
