Programmes and projects in development

These projects develop parts of the Abbey’s research agenda. They are at different stages of preparation. Their scope and timetable will evolve as partnerships and resources are secured; the underlying research questions remain part of our long-term work.

“Associated initiative” describes the relationship to an estate organisation. It does not indicate an award or delivery stage. The entries below describe proposed work; a funding award is stated only when confirmed.

Cultural and Creative Sectors and Industries Innovation Centre

Project in preparation · design complete

Living heritage and fair creative cooperation

DELTA · SAS Abbaye Saint-Pierre

DELTA explores how living craft traditions can support fair and sustainable creative innovation through cooperation between Europe and Southeast Asia. The proposed work connects practitioner-led experimentation, responsible digital tools, and approaches to learning and market access. The Abbey’s planned contribution combines project delivery with residential and practical transfer activities, including textile and foodcraft work, while cultural decisions remain with the relevant knowledge holders.

Project in preparation

Circular fashion through garment knowledge

RETHREAD STUDIO · SAS Abbaye Saint-Pierre

RETHREAD STUDIO develops a design-led approach to the next use of existing garments. It brings wearers, makers, and repairers into the creative process, combining garment histories with practical decisions about repair, redesign, remaking, and recovery. The proposed research connects cultural value and authorship with product quality, resource use, operating cost, and demand in a working market.

The programme film is a proposal presentation with illustrative footage and targets, rather than achieved results. The version supplied includes English text within the picture; accessible captions and a transcript are being prepared.

Concept in development

Heritage knowledge in contemporary textile design

ORDIT

ORDIT explores how textile heritage can inform the structure and development of contemporary fashion. The concept connects documented sources, material practice, and design experimentation, with attention to authorship and the role of digital tools. Its purpose is to test how inherited knowledge can support new creative work while remaining traceable to the people, practices, and collections from which it comes.

Concept in development

Transmitting chant as living heritage

CANTUS VIVUS

CANTUS VIVUS investigates how sacred chant is learned, remembered, documented, and passed between generations. The concept brings together scholarly sources, vocal practice, residential learning, and responsible digital documentation. It distinguishes living traditions from historical reconstruction and gives communities and practitioners a central role in deciding how their knowledge is represented and shared.

Developed with the scholarly programme of the Conservatoire du Patrimoine des Abbayes.

Collaboration under discussion

Chant sources and vocal practice

SIGNAVOX

SIGNAVOX is an emerging collaboration around chant transmission, vocal practice, and the interpretation of historical evidence. The Abbey’s proposed contribution is a research setting that can connect sources, place, and practice through access and residential collaboration. Scientific direction and institutional responsibilities remain to be agreed with the research leaders.

Responsible AI in cultural and creative work

ATELIER

ATELIER develops practical ways for cultural and creative organisations to use AI within professional workflows. It connects approved sources, permissions, human review, and traceable services, then examines quality, cost, training, and continued use in real practice.

At the Abbey this programme is associated with the Conservatoire du Patrimoine des Abbayes, the learned society on the estate, whose role is distinct from that of the SAS and from the shared estate. The Conservatoire is the named Abbey participant.

Regenerative Land and Food Systems Innovation Centre

Associated initiative · SCEA Abbaye Saint Pierre de Lacour

Water retention and rural resilience

AQUI-RETAIN

AQUI-RETAIN investigates how rural landscapes can retain water and support aquifer recharge under suitable environmental and operating conditions. The proposed work combines field monitoring, water-quality safeguards, practical land management, and the responsibilities and costs involved in continued operation. The Abbey setting is proposed as a transfer demonstrator through SCEA Abbaye Saint Pierre de Lacour, testing how an approach can be adapted to a working farm.

A planned intervention, not existing recharge infrastructure.

Concept in development

Community participation in water stewardship

ATLANTIS

ATLANTIS is an early project concept for community participation in water stewardship. The research question, local activities, and the Abbey’s role are being defined.

Studies open to a partner

Two of the four centres are designing their first studies now, and are looking for the research partner who will lead them.

Under Wellbeing Innovation Centre: a feasibility and acceptability study of a residential programme format, and an access and participation review. Under Bauhaus Vision Implementation Centre: a phased demonstrator taking one building through condition, question, a full year of monitoring, and a documented intervention.

These are the points at which a collaborator has most influence over how a study is framed.
