Estate organisations

Four organisations, one estate

Several distinct legal entities operate at Mas-Grenier. They collaborate, and they are not interchangeable. Anyone arranging access to the estate or agreeing terms of work needs to know which one they are dealing with, and this page says so.

The place can fairly be described as shared. Legal participation, employment, accreditation, asset control and credit for work cannot be: each belongs to one organisation, and that is how they are attributed here.

Who does what
OrganisationRoleHow it is attributed
SAS Abbaye Saint-Pierre Institutional research and innovation activity, collaboration, and relevant site operations. The publisher of this site. Named as participant where this company is the participant. It does not hold every asset on the estate and does not claim to.
SCEA Abbaye Saint Pierre de Lacour Agricultural operator and land-based research collaborator. Farms the cultivated land. Farm certifications, farm assets and AQUI-RETAIN participation are attributed to the SCEA. Certification labels are never transferred to the SAS.
Conservatoire du Patrimoine des Abbayes Learned society: scholarly and cultural research, heritage documentation, transmission, and related programmes. The named Abbey participant in ATELIER. Its programmes and library are its own; see its website.
Abbatia Sancti Petri de Curte Religious association, associated with worship and spiritual life on the estate. Religious activity is kept distinct from research participation. It is not a research partner and is not presented as one.

Why this matters in practice

Three consequences follow, and they are the ones that affect anyone working here.

  • Access is granted by the operator, not by the estate. Research access is arranged with the organisation responsible for each space, activity, and asset. A commitment from one entity does not bind another.
  • Certifications belong to the holder. The organic and HVE level 3 certifications are the SCEA’s. They describe the farm operation, and it would be inaccurate to present them as attributes of this company or of the estate as a whole.
  • Project credit follows the participant. Where the Conservatoire is the participant, the Conservatoire is named. Where the SCEA is the participant, the SCEA is named. We do not absorb another organisation’s participation into our own record.

Collaboration between them

The organisations work together, and the site is more useful because they do. A study of foodcraft can draw on the farm that grows the material and on the scholarship that documents the practice. A study of chant transmission belongs with the learned society and takes place in a building that the religious association uses for worship.

Describing that collaboration accurately is not a formality. It is what allows any claim made here to be checked, and what keeps each organisation’s work properly its own.
